Chapter 14
Krista stared in awe at Racineâs dark ebony eyes now rimmed with silver. She may be new to the supernatural world, but she knew what the silver meant. She also knew her eyes now sported a matching band as well because she and Racine were Tiras, soul mates, destined to be together.
So why did the man look so miserable about it? Not exactly the reaction a woman hoped for after the most mind-blowing sex of her life. In truth, she didnât have much to compare it to. She had fooled around a bit with one of the other Enforcer trainees at Deer Creek. He was nice and attractive and they both knew it wasnât anything lasting. So really, Racine was her only full-fledged lover and now also her Tira.
Too bad he looked like he wanted to run as far and fast as he could.
Heart breaking just a little, she stood and raced to grab her clothes. She got her pants on in record time, fumbling with her bra as she turned her back to him and spoke. She couldnât face him right now.
âDonât worry, maybe weâre not really Tiras. It might just be another freak Drone thing. Iâm sure the guys in the lab can sort it all out and youâll be rid of me in no time.â
âYouâre not a freak,â his dark voice had a sharp edge to it. âStop calling yourself that. And I donât want to be rid of you.â
âCouldâve fooled me,â she muttered under her breath.
Suddenly, he stood behind her. How did a man so big move so quietly? His strong arms wrapped around her. Warm breath tickled her ear sending shivers down her spine.
âWe are Tiras. Fate has decided. Iâm not upset, Iâm worried.â
Worried? What was he worried about? She started to turn around and ask for an explanation when a knock on the door interrupted them.
âGo away,â Racine growled.
âRacine?â
Crap! She recognized the voice coming from the other side of the closed door. Her sister, queen of the worst timing ever.
âI need to talk to you.â Tabithaâs voice carried through the closed door.
âLater.â
Yes, much, much later. Krista remained naked from the waist up and Racine didnât have any clothes on. The room was a mess. Anyone with half a brain cell could see what happened in here and her sister was no dummy. Plus, one look at their eyes and itâd be a dead giveaway. She knew everyone would find out, eventually, but she didnât want her big sister walking in two minutes after she just did the deed with the man who was technically their boss.
âItâs important,â her sister insisted, never one to give up easily. âOne of the prisoners talked.â
Racine swore softly. âGet dressed,â he whispered in her ear before calling out. âOne moment.â
They dressed quickly and picked up his office the best they could. Racine bent down and brushed a gentle kiss against her lips.
âWe are not done talking.â
Damn right they werenât.
He opened his office door and let Tabitha in. As always, Kiernan followed her.
